BattleTech: A Time of War bundle includes everything you need to play the MechWarrior RPG for $13
Mech a deal.
Mech roleplaying game BattleTech: A Time of War is the star of the latest Bundle of Holding deal, stomping down the price of the tabletop RPG’s core rulebook and supplements.
Originally released by publisher Catalyst Game Labs in 2010, A Time of War is set in the futuristic universe of the BattleTech and MechWarrior games. The game is powered by a 2d6 system that sees players roll two six-sided dice to resolve tests and actions. The RPG system is compatible with the BattleTech: Total Warfare miniatures game, allowing battles to be depicted using the wargame’s tactical combat.
Characters are built solely around the skills selected by players - unlike the class-based character creation of games such as Dungeons & Dragons - allowing flexibility when it comes to what they can do. Players could be one of the pilots controlling a towering mech on the battlefield, or someone behind the scenes working as a merchant, spy or scientist. Characters can align themselves with one of the setting’s various factions, providing further opportunities to delve into the world’s lore and embark on adventures.
The Bundle of Holding offers a starter collection for newcomers to BattleTech: A Time of War, including the game’s 410-page core rulebook (including quickstart rules and a GM screen), Companion expansion book - which introduces a number of advanced rules and optional content - and BattleTech: 25 Years of Art and Fiction, the volume released to mark the series’ anniversary in 2009. Usually worth around $50, the set can currently be picked up in digital form for $12.95.
For those who pay over the average - currently $26.22 - a bonus collection of A Time of War supplements will be added to the bundle. The set includes three era reports - 3052, 3062 and 3145 - that allow players to explore specific periods of the BattleTech universe, complete with information on the world and details on running scenarios and campaigns. The collection also includes Empires Aflame, Necromo Nightmare and War of the Tripods!, which were previously released as annual Halloween adventure modules. The additional bonus content is worth an estimated $68 in total, making the complete Bundle of Holding worth $118.
The BattleTech: A Time of War Bundle of Holding will be available until June 7th. 10% of proceeds will go towards Direct Relief, a charity supporting health workers and medical facilities in the US, Canada and around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.
