Nebula joins her sister in the latest Marvel Champions hero pack
Sisters are doing it for themselves.
Cybernetic killing machine Nebula is blasting into the Marvel Champions card game in its latest hero pack.
Best known for her depiction by Karen Gillan in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films, Nebula is the adopted daughter of Thanos, sister to Gamora and the newest playable character in Marvel Champions. A cyborg created to do Thanos’ bidding, Nebula eventually broke free of her abusive captor in order to become a space pirate. However, when Thanos began his campaign of galactic domination, Nebula became a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in order to thwart his scheme. Despite toeing the line between anti-hero and villain, Nebula is firmly on the side of the heroes for her turn in Marvel Champions.
The Nebula Hero Pack is a justice deck containing 15 cards entirely unique to the cyborg, including her character card - which players will be able to use in either its hero form, which works alongside the deck’s techniques, or its alter-ego side, which enables greater card draw. Nebula’s technique upgrades represent the experience, skill and cybernetic enhancements she has gained over the years. In order to properly utilise the character deck, players will need to take full advantage of these technique upgrades throughout their playthrough.
Some of Nebula’s techniques include gaining the ability to instantly bypass enemy defences or strengthen her against potential negative status effects. Techniques are passive effects that remain until players choose to resolve their special abilities, which can be activated outside of combat as well. Nebula also comes with a collection of allies to aid her, including Gamora herself - who will help to activate Nebula’s special abilities. However, Gamora can appear as an enemy to be used against Nebula too - thereby reflecting their tenuous and ever-changing relationship.
Marvel Champions: The Card Game is a co-op title that sees players teaming up together as a band of superheroes in order to defeat a nefarious villain. All the characters - including both the heroes and villains - are taken from the Marvel comics franchise, with players able to become the likes of Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and She-Hulk fighting against classic enemies such as Ultron and The Red Skull.
During the game, players use their individual decks in order to fight minions, support one another or power themselves up. They must be able to survive the villain’s onslaught and prevent their scheme from triggering, so that they can eventually reduce their health to zero.
Marvel Champions and the Nebula Hero Pack are published by Fantasy Flight Games, the studio also responsible for releasing the Arkham Horror Files series - containing titles such as Eldritch Horror and Arkham Horror: The Card Game - and unique deck game Keyforge.
The Nebula Hero Pack is yet to receive a release date and is priced at $14.95 (£10), it requires the core Marvel Champions game to be played.
