Abomination: Heir of Frankenstein’s free companion app is given life, stars Borderlands 2 and DBZ actor
Browser app features narration from Brandon Potter.
Get immersed in the world of Abomination: Heir of Frankenstein with a new companion app featuring voiceover for the horror game’s event cards and encounters.
Available to access for free, the browser-based app for Abomination enables players to listen to professional actors read out the event cards and encounters in the board game. Throughout Abomination, player actions or the passing of time can trigger a narrative event - which players can respond to by making certain decisions.
Usually, these event cards would be read out by one of the players. However, the new companion app allows players to enter in a code related to an event or encounter that occurs in their game and have it be narrated by actors such as Brandon Potter, known for voicing characters including Pyro Pete from video game Borderlands 2, Gunhead from anime series My Hero Academia and Mustard from Dragon Ball Z.
As well as the event and encounters, the Abomination companion app features a prologue that players can listen to before starting the game - setting an appropriately spooky mood. There are multiple endings for players to listen to once their game is over, with each one representing a different outcome for the players depending upon their performance.
Abomination: Heir of Frankenstein is a worker-placement board game where two to four players attempt to create a living being out of reanimated corpses. After being contacted by a mysterious figure, players are tasked with discovering the secret to mortality in order to create a suitable partner for their benefactor. However, the players are on a tight time scale, as the mysterious figure is also being hunted by a vengeful sea captain.
In the game, players take turns to perform different actions - such as gathering body parts from the morgue, hiring assistants and completing research - in order to create life and appease their benefactor. At various points they may be visited by the mysterious figure, with their current progress determining whether they will be rewarded or punished. The game ends once either one player successfully brings their creation to life or when their benefactor is defeated by Captain Robert Walton.
Abomination: Heir of Frankenstein was created by Dan Blanchett, who is also a co-designer on the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade - Rivals Expandable Card Game, based on the tabletop RPG in the World of Darkness universe.
Plaid Hat Games is the publisher behind Abomination, with the horror game being one of the remaining IPs the company currently has ownership over after relinquishing the rights to series such as Dead of Winter and Mice and Mystics to Fantasy Flight Games as part of returning to independence earlier this year.
Players can access the companion app for Abomination: Heir of Frankenstein for free right now by opening it in a web browser.
